Forest School
At Forest School, our ethos is for all children to enjoy, explore and learn within the outdoor, woodland environment. We believe that the children will benefit from the experiences and learning opportunities that they will encounter within the Forest School and being in the woodland environment.
Forest School offers a learner centred approach which will enable the children to build on motivational skills and positive attitude towards learning, as well as enabling them to manage risk taking, making their own choices and initiate their own activities.
The Forest School session is about exploring and experiencing learning through the natural world during practical activities. The children will go out in all weathers, all year round, exploring and learning through the four seasons and the environmental changes. The sessions will have a planned activity by the practitioner but the Forest School ethos enables the activities to change and be completely learner led via their interests.
The vision we aim to achieve is to provide children with the opportunity to explore the outside world and connect with nature through various activities. For the children to use their imagination and interests to create and explore when in this environment. We want to support children learning about themselves and where they belong within the world alongside nature and wildlife.
The children can learn about how to care for the natural world and creatures and plants within in to then become the next generation to ensure this is kept up and nature is appreciated. This will enable children to build upon their early stages of self-esteem, self-confidence, communication, problem solving, creativity, curiosity and exploratory skills and build their knowledge of the environment though risk taking.
